Trip back to India..

A month has passed since I posted an update on whats happening in life and a LOT has happened. So let me update you all..

My last few days in DC were very hectic. I was getting rid of all my worldly posessions and finally moving out of the country. I had been in and out quite regularly since Jun '05 and now I finally called it quits and moved out !

Quite a liberating feeling, but at the same time quite wierd. The worst part, getting rid of my 3 loves -- my car, my motorcycle and my TV. My first world posessions of significance I built of my own money. More on this sometime, it really effected me !

I trashed a ton of junk - clothes, memorablia, old photos, god knows what all ! Was interesting going through old stuff, thinking of old friends, old trips, etc. Good fun for a bit but a ton of work :(

and finally air france was an interesting experience. I shared the flight with a french couple who were quite snobbish and did not speak any English. I tried using my rudimentary french to communicate with them and atleast found out their names, their itinarary and some more basic info. Ok ok, sign language was more useful than my french :)

and yah, i had a nice 3 hr nap at the CDG(Paris) airport. Terminal A usually sucks, but today I was able to get enough place on their chairs to lie down and sleep. Nice :)

adieu from Cap1

today, I sent the final farewell mail to Cap1 folks. It could have been much longer and I would most probably be writing more about it here soon.

For now, my email to Cap 1 is below

One thing I forgot to mention was that I would most probably have my US Ph # active for a while - 8046771719.
So if you are visiting this now, do note that and feel free to call me or email me. Would be really good to keep in touch.

cheers

Hi everyone,
I have been procrastinating writing this email for quite some time now, but eventually got down to it. I am now finally leaving Capital One and wrapping up here in Mclean. Capital One has been a fantastic journey the last few years and I definitely have tons of memories...
- 7am/7pm meetings and 10 hr meeting days
- the long teaser (I love that product :) )
- the fun days...
- and jumping with joy at 0.5% of response..
Needless to say that I will carry a lot of Capital One with me wherever I go. Its been fun and a great learning experience at the same time.

I am now moving back to Delhi, India and will be getting married sometime in the next year. You are all invited for it, watch this space or my blog for details (www.shantanumathur.com ). Also, if you are ever coming down to India or would like to come down to India, do let me know. It would be great to catch up and even show you around India.

I hope to keep in touch with most of you. Please note my contact information (below) and do drop in a line sometime..I will be sure to respond, maybe late, but respond I will.

Au Revoir..
Shantanu

Will Smith on Golf...

Now I dont like Will Smith, but I think he has put perfectly into words what is so great about Golf.

~~~~~~~~
this is from an interview where he is talking about one of his movies "The Legend of Bagger Vance". Great golf movie which teaches you a lot about leadership and dedication !
Did you discover what is seductive about such a weird game?
WILL: What's great about golf is that it's the most difficult thing that you will ever do in your life. There's nothing you can do, there's no sport you can play, that is harder than golf. It's impossible.
At the same time, I could take any non-golfer to a golf course right now, and give them a hundred balls. And they could hit one ball that Tiger Woods can't beat. You could hit one shot that Tiger Woods could hit a thousand balls, and never beat it, you know? And it's that shot that you chase for the rest of your life. That one shot, that one taste of greatness. That one taste of perfection and excellence. And there's no other sport that's like that.
You will never dunk on Michael Jordan, period. Period. You're not gonna dunk on Mike. It's not happening. And you will never tackle Emmett Smith. He's gonna run over you. It's not gonna happen.
Golf is the only sport where you can be the best in the world for one fleeting moment. You can hit the best shot. Like I made a hole in one about a year ago. There's no way to beat that. Tiger can't beat that shot. He could have a thousand balls, and he'll never beat that shot. So I was the best in the world for that one second.
~~~~~~~~~~
The perfect shot not just looks good, but sounds and feels good ! When you hit the ball well, you just know it and man, I rarely smile like that.

Thats golf...you fall in love with it !

A post on motivational movies coming soon...

IIT Days..Part 1 Bhoots

The bhoot's - my adopted wing at IIT(Aravali)

First a photo feature of a reunion in DC-Richmond sometime back. Amazing time. Click here !
All the pics

I will try and put up some pics from my SF trip with most of the Bhoots soon.

About the bhoot's At IIT....
Officially, I was part of the Nilgiri hostel but somehow because of Bhatti (Amit Bhatnagar) ended up spending most of my time with these guys (Aravali guys)

Well, this wing was quite a wing. There were like 8 (approx) core members however the total strength was significantly boosted by the presence os atleast 6-7 other day scholars and other hostelers.
Some of the pecularities of the wing..
- all ranges of CG's from 5,6,7,8,9 and almost 10 (penta)
- there were folks excelling in dramatics, sports, poltu - u name it we had it. We also had some folks like mota who were involved in everything :)
- jobs in this wing placed folks from Delhi to US with Dubai, france and some other places in the middlle
- undies were burnt in this wing, drunken stories were recorded, gay pics were clicked, doors were broken, god knows what all.
- one of the best parties ever was our daaru party after getting jobs to our juniors --- well the highlight of that party
a. guy was soooo drunk, he took a crap in his room
b. guys puked in the corridor, someone threw a bucket of water and promptly..a slide was creatd. Too many people were jumping and sliding in that muck..
c. Saxy was telling carnal stories from his trip to Canada last summer

And there were tons of more stuff....sometime soon will update this more.

Interesting Elevator concept..

http://dsc.discovery.com/news/briefs/20060403/elevator_tec.html?source=rss

check this out guys. Pretty cool concept, cant wait to see the actual photos and videos.

Science is so fascinating. I dabbled with the thought of working in design after my Mech eng. degree, however realized that I live for that initial part of design where we are thinking of ideas, and hate to do anything beyond. heh heh

well, the same still holds true :-) so, the struggle to decide upon a path of life which allows me to do that continues. Any ideas out there ?

I am dabbling with startups in brand new fields, but not much success. But hey, its been less than 6 months, so I guess I need to give it a better shot. hmmm - or is this the time to do it ? Should I just wait ??

The confusion reigns supreme :)
